PSA: Mac battery recall
Since I know there's at least three people on my flist who might be affected by this: Apple's announced a battery recall and exchange for certain iBook and PowerBook models.

Having just found out about this now, I fully expect that when I go home in the next couple of hours, it will develop that my laptop's battery is one of those affected, and that it will demonstrate this by having overheated and set my house on fire. OK, "fully expect" is perhaps a bit strong, but still.

Update (18:09): Yes, my battery is one of the ones affected; no, my house didn't burn down. But 4-6 weeks for the replacement to arrive is irksome.

I need to call apple and have a chat with them about my battery. My old battery (which was covered under the recall) crapped out a few weeks back, and I bought a new one. Had I waited, I could have had it replaced for free. I figure that the probability that they'll give me a refund is pretty low, but I might as well try.

I just sent in for the replacement. It seems that they send you the new one and only then do you mail in the old one. I am tempted to keep both. You might try something similar -- get the old crappy one replaced by the recall and find yourself with 2 working batteries.

We lucked out... ours was not affected by the recall.

I'm glad your house didn't burn down. That would be damn inconvenient. :P
