So if you have sound-color synesthesia and you could take some time to answer my questions, that would be awesome. :) 1) What kinds of things do you see when hearing particularly loud, intense noises (specifically, I'm looking for things like someone screaming, fireworks, a car backfiring, or a gunshot)? 2) Do loud noises like the ones I mentioned above bother you more than you think they bother someone who doesn't have synesthesia? What kinds of reactions do you have to them? 3) What about unexpected loud noises versus ones you can anticipate? If a certain sound/sight combination normally bothers you, is there any way you can prepare yourself for it if you know it's coming, and will doing so make things easier to deal with? 4) What about crowds - is it easy for you to be around crowds or does the combination of so many voices bother you? I've looked through the archives of this community and it's already helped me a lot, but I figured I would ask anyway. Any personal experience will help me in this situation, no matter how much or how little you have to say. Thanks in advance! Sun, Jan. 3rd, 2010, 01:26 am

i've been avoiding something i'm supposed to write for weeks now and my concern over the high quality of my avoidance skills is starting to grow. today, i will sit down and write. also, no more mafia wars. and that's that. much health and happiness to all. Thu, Dec. 31st, 2009, 11:42 pm
I was going to finish up the year of desultory blogging with an epic epistle on the personal blog. But, well, you know. One thing led to another, and here I am, about to turn in at 10:30 on New Years Eve. No barn-burner of a rant or grand essay on What I Learned During My Year Of Blog, I'm afraid. It's not like I haven't been tempted. Between our current Pseudo-Conservative government stepping on their own dicks week after week, or the International Air Travel Players and their latest Security Theatre production, there has been no lack of fodder for this blog. But, honestly, it's pretty obvious I'm not as interested in that sort of thing as I used to be. Happy New Year, internets. @clvrmnky, out. Thu, Dec. 31st, 2009, 07:31 pm

I'm sure I had something more coherent to say at some point, but I've only somewhere between four and five hours sleep. I only wish I could blame that on my own partying. Anyway, thoughts have fled my brain and plans to go see the independent games festival at Fed Square have been put on hold pending return of sanity. My father asked me if I had made resolutions. It hadn't even occurred to me. I already joined a gym, how many other relatively painless commitments can one man make? Whatever. I resolve to play more videogames. There we go. This is why I don't have a proper blog: rambling incoherence. Thu, Dec. 31st, 2009, 03:09 am

Ok, it's one thing to shut down schools, my pottery studio, and even Celticfest during the Olympics. But to shut down the government?

Yesterday, some nutbar tried to ignite something on a plane that was landing in Detroit. The components of the device that he tried to ignite were apparently strapped to his legs; nearby passengers saw the device in his lap and got up to subdue him. In response, the TSA has apparently decided to require passengers on flights entering the U.S. to remain in their seats for the last hour of the flight with nothing in their laps, and is limiting international passengers to one carry-on item. In other words, the TSA has rushed to implement two new security procedures that will massively inconvenience all international air travellers and would have done nothing...absolutely nothing...to prevent the incident in Detroit yesterday. Bravo, TSA. Braaaaavo. Sat, Dec. 26th, 2009, 12:00 pm

This very short chapter deals with drawbacks. I’d have had an easier time of it if I knew what drawbacks are. Next chapter is about bounties, and the same applies. As near as I can tell, a drawback is a refund of a portion of whatever duty is charged on export. Page 389: “They tend not to overturn that balance which naturally establishes itself among all the various employments of society.” My problem here is that it doesn’t make sense to me to speak of some sort of natural balance of employments and then see interference by the State as external to this; the State is an integral, inevitable part of capitalism, and when it interferes in the market, it is (to the extent it does so successfully from the point of view of the capitalists) doing exactly what it is supposed to do. It is like trying to understand the movement of an orbiting body by examining the centrifugal force, but seeing gravity as an unnatural interference. Originally published at Words Words Words. St. Patrick's Day, followed by the release of Hot Tub Time Machine, which is about four guys who discover a time machine in a jacuzzi, and get transported back to NINETEEN EIGHTY SIX. This promises to be as awesome, and in precisely the same way, as Snakes on a Plane.
